1.2 Physical or chemical?

When iron rusts, iron and oxygen combine into iron oxide. A physical change only alters how matter looks: melted ice is still water. Look for a color change, a gas, or heat you did not add.

Ice melting, sugar dissolving and water boiling are physical changes. Burning, rusting and baking are chemical ones. When you are unsure, ask what the substance is now.
